For revegetation using seedlings to be effective, the planting sites first need to be treated with herbicide to prevent competition from existing vegetation. Ideally the minimum amount of chemical is used to avoid unnecessarily damaging existing ground cover. Applying herbicide in small spots is difficult with traditional spraying methods, and is even more difficult when coupled with steep, rocky terrain like that surrounding Amphitheatre.
Using a customised boom and control system, FMS was able to modify a DJI Agras T10 to perform precise spot spraying for revegetation site preparation. Variables like spot size and spacing could be programmed to provide a uniform and consistent number of spots across inaccessible terrain.
